Check out American Iron Magazine. They publish and update a list of dealers who sell for MSRP. I've found that you can either pay (close to) MSRP and put one on order for 6 mos (sportsters) to 2 years (anything else), or you can pay out the nose to a place that doesn't do orders. Bottom line is that a couple hours drive time may result in significant price change. Keep in mind that HD has targeted yuppies, and they don't want to drive far.
Take a page from the good book of Witch Doctor: check out alternative sources like "unauthorized dealers" and Easyriders shops. Once you develop a rapport with some of those folks, they won't steer you wrong!
